Seasonal Guide

Spring Cleaning for Your Jira Instance

A practical seasonal maintenance guide covering old boards, stale fields, broken filters, dormant projects, and legacy workflows.

Spring is for pruning. Archive what is stale, merge what is duplicative, and label what should be revisited later.

A seasonal sweep

One hour sweep

  • List boards with no activity in ninety days and archive them.
  • Identify fields with low fill rates and evaluate removal.
  • Close projects that no longer have an owner.
Pruning is maintenance, not loss.

What to prune first

High leverage targets

  • Boards that no one has opened recently.
  • Filters that error or return nothing useful.
  • Dashboards with stale or duplicate widgets.

Merge or archive

Consolidate surfaces that serve the same audience. If two artifacts tell the same story, keep one and archive the other with a short note in the description that points to the new home.

Safety and backups

Reduce regret

  • Export names of anything you remove to a simple CSV.
  • Announce changes in the team channel with a way to request a restore.
  • Time box restoration to two weeks to avoid permanent limbo.
